A Party for Tuesday!

A few weeks ago I followed a link that was labeled, "For the Love of Tuesday". I don't typically bother with things that look like ads, but the picture was just so adorable... It was a little girl holding her mom and dad's hands, but most of them out of the frame. I don't know what I was expecting. Perhaps another clever name for a children's boutique... What I found was an incredible family, the Whitts. Tuesday's mother has a blog called Go Blog Yourself. She chose to share the story of Tuesday's battle with neuroblastoma, a rare and life-threatening cancer. Her strength is amazing and she was able to write even when the worst happened. Tuesday joined the other angels in heaven on January 30 of this year. She was born just two months after my little Alex, so the story was very dificult to read, but also inspiring and beautiful. Jessica(Tuesday's mother) showed such character and continues to live everyday for her husband and children. I do not have a lot of money to offer, but some are doing giveaways or yard sales and donating the proceeds. I would like to offer up a pair of hairbows. I will try to put up a couple of pics of my bows tonight or tomorrow. I don't have many followers and have not done any giveaways or anything. My hope is that I can send them to one of the bloggers I have been following who could sell them and donate the money in honor of Tuesday to help in the research of pediatric cancer. Messy bun for the princess or rocker!

Okay, so I hope you'll forgive my crazy directions. By looking at other hair blogs, I have found that the best way to learn is usually with pictures
This was just too cute not to put up:) Peekaboo!

I know I didn't do the best job on these, but it looked great after it was finished. Alex has bangs, so I had to put two on this side.

After we did this side, I got a nice "bouf" by taking sections of hair on the top and back-combing them. Then I just smoothed out the top when I put it in the pony.

This was last Wednesday and she wore this with her Harley jacket and jean skirt. It was absolutely adorable, and of course, I somehow managed to get zero pictures of it... I know, me who always has her camera!

We started with a messy bun, but it wasn't quite enough(she doesn't have much hair). So, I took the bun out and just scrunched away while spraying lightly with hairspray. Alex has a little bit of natural curl which helped with this. You can curl it with an iron if you need something to work with, then pull the hair up and let a little fall at a time while spraying. Several ways to get this messy pony!

I like the look, so the next day for dance class, I did it again. This time, of course, she had to have a girly pink headband:) We did a smaller "bouf" this time. I didn't back-comb, I just put it in the pony then used a rat tail comb by sliding it under the hair in front and gently pulling it out. You can spray if you need extra hold. I am going to put up another post right after this with directions for my messy bun, so I won't put them here, just check back in a few hours. (I know you are on the edge of your seat waiting for it... watch a few old episodes of Lost and I'll have it up:)

A braid, two piggies, and some twists.

I didn't really know how this would work out, so I didn't even think to take pics as I was doing it. Hopefully you will know how to do most of this. I'll just describe it the best I can. I really do like this one. I think I will do this again for Sunday morning church.
I started with a diagonal part across the top and put the sides in loose pigtails. I left the bottom section, from the mid-ear down, out of the two piggies. Next I sectioned out the front two pieces to make a "headband". I french braided the larger side and put the other side into a ponytail close to her scalp. The placement of the parts is easier to see in pictures.

I know it's a funny pic, but it shows the top really well.

Maybe you can see it here, when I put the "headband" in, I used hair from the piggies and the lower section. After the headband is finished, you can put the piggies in tight.

Next, I sectioned the bottom hair into 4 parts. These are twists that I then criss-crossed. I added the extra hair from the headband pieces in with the twists. To add all this to the piggies, I just used another rubberband over the first and included all the hair on each side. To get the messy bun, I just wrap the hair around very loosely and then put another band around it. Then I pull on the pieces a little to get a more relaxed look.

What, someone has done this already?!?!?!

Lol, what did I expect? That I was the first ever to create a hair blog? :) I was so terribly excited to find a blog called "The Story of A Princess and Her Hair" and there I found links to an entire world of hair! Her blog alone was enough to make my head explode, but then to find that there were all these other moms out there doing the same thing... WOW! And so, I have completely thrown myself into their world. I am joining a community of amazing women who have the same fun daily activities that I do! I honestly spent so much time searching the web that I was amazed to find these blogs actually existed. But enough of that... I am hereby a hair blogger and I gladly send you to check out the incredible moms and girls I have discovered. Although I am fairly certain they do not mind, I am awaiting permission before adding any of these blogs to my links. However, as I receive that go-ahead, you will see several new blog links pop up. There are two already, and you won't be disappointed with what you find there!

Okay, and now for a little note about copyrights and credit, etc. I will always do my best to say where I got an idea. However, to be honest, I have spent the last week looking at page after page of styles and I simply might not be able to find the post that I got my inspiration from. Also, my hairstyles are a combination of the things I learned from my Momma, Grandma, and two sisters, as well as the crazy things I tried with my own hair in high school. Then there are also the things I have seen on actors, in modeling ads, on other girls at the park, etc. And of course the other wonderful moms and their blogs, so please don't be upset if you see something that might be yours! If you think it is your design, just send a message and I will happily link to your do. Okay, thanks for letting me take care of that little bit of business! Lol, I am sure all three of my followers right now will certainly feel better:)

Oh, that's one more thing I should mention. I am, on occasion, a little sarcastic...

Young Elizabeth Swan... Fancy style!

Alex's big brothers are having a POTC (Pirates of the Carribean) birthday party, so we had to have our own litte Elizabeth Swan. This hairstyle was inspired by the young Miss Swan from the first POTC. I just love the way it turned out!

This is how our new look began. I divided the hair just past the crown, but left a little triangle out in front. I started with wet hair, you can do the curls with damp or dry hair.

I divided the triangle into four sections. The back two I twisted until they started to turn in, making the little circles. I just pinned these down; they stayed very well. To get the front two pieces to stand up a little, I combed them forward before I twisted them back. With longer hair, you could just add the ends with the pony instead of using bobby pins.

For this part, I just twisted several pieces and pinned them around the pony. I changed it later:)

I showed spiral curls in another post and this is another way to get them to stay all day. You want to curl the hair in the shape it will stay in. The traditional way to curl with an iron is to roll the hair over itself. Those curls will fall out, but if you curl it like this, you will get a better shape for spirals and it will last much longer. Also, to get lot of volume, curl VERY small sections of hair and make sure to use a flexible hairspray and some molding putty/mud/glue/wax/etc. This will give the curls definition and awesome hold! I took these pictures right after we were done, but the look will soften up a bit without falling after about 20 min.

After I had all the curls done, the top didn't look quite right. It would have worked better for those with more hair. Alex just needed more poof! I took out what I had done and curled it in several pieces.

Next, I just bobby pinned the pieces around the ponytail. This is simple and relaxed, but held for a very long time and looked so elegant.

This one came out pretty cute, but not quite what I was going for. This was an easter pre-run. Well, it is still a cute everyday do. There are two styles in this post. I started with this one...Hope you don't need directions; it was pretty simple. (Sorry the pics are so dark!)

But, she got a cute little "boof" in the back with all that extra hair gathered on top!
For the style at the top, I just grabbed all that extra hair and put it in a super-high ponytail.
And now for some cheese:)

Criss-Cross

I really had fun with this one! This style has been in the works for some time, and Alex finally has enough hair to pull it off:) I parted Alex's hair into the six sections and put them in loose ponytails to start.

After I got the front two in just the right spot, I twisted the hair from one of these ponies and put it together with the section on the opposite side in the next row. You could put the second row in tight ponytails and just put another elastic around the outside as you add the hair to make things easier.
After all the pieces were together and I had two big ponytails at the bottom, I twisted and made a bun, but stopped before wrapping it all the way around. I made sure to stop with the hair sticking out on top. I added one last elastic and then fluffed the hair sticking out.
