Fireworks Hair

Extra post today... I realized I better get this out right away if you all were going to see it before the 4th. ;)

Alexandra asked me for fireworks hair and this is what I came up with...

I originally wanted a flag look, but Alex fell asleep and then asked for the fireworks. Anyway, I started, as always, by parting the hair into sections and pulling back the ones I wasn't using.

I did one french twist braid and switched to traditional french braids, not sure why. ;)

On the other side of the hair in front, I made puff braids with lots of sections. Pretty simple really. I didn't have white elastics, but considered using some white ribbon to do stripes.

 I haven't had this problem before, but a few of the elastics broke. You can see the places they should be... Anyway, there is a third row here. I thought it would look neat to make rows all the way across the back and then pull it all together into a low side ponytail/bun. We ended up tossing everything up into a messy bun and then I stuck a few pipe cleaners randomly into it. They stayed on their own just fine!

In the end, it looked really adorable and fun. And we got quite a few compliments at the Wet'n'Wild days at our Zoo. ;)

Twist and back and twist and back... piggies;)

This one turned out so super cute! ;) I think I may do this for her upcoming bday... I think it is one of the cutest I've done and Alex just loves wearing "parkles" and her candy bows, so this was a win-win;)

And, of course a gazillion pics because, well, that is one of my favorite parts of this whole deal... you know, the fun pics of my girl;)
Especially this one... I think she got it this time!!! Lol, too bad I am using my old "baby" digital for close-ups right now. It turned out just a tad grainy...

Okay, so this is the start. I started with a zigzag part, though hindsight what it is, I will tell you an easier way;) I suggest parting the sides out all the way down, leaving what could be a mohawk out. Go ahead and put the sides into elastics.

Next you'll want to take the first two little section from one side of the zigzag and do a twist braid with them, secure with an elastic.

Next, use the end of that pony and the next section on the same side of the zigzag to make another twist braid, secure with an elastic.

Continue this 'til you reach the bottom section and add all of it to the piggie.

Next, I made the piggies messy by teasing(yeah, I've been doing that a lot lately) and then I added those "parkles". This would be the two bottles of spray glitter that are left over from LAST Halloween! Hahaha, we've gotten a ton of use out of these;)

I added her streamer candy clips and that was that! As you can probably tell, she dressed herself again.

The other attempt... Zigzag headband

Okay, this is the same basic style as the last post. In fact I already mentioned it, but wanted to show what I tried to do:) For the pony part, I just back-combed the hair and then sprayed with a little hairspray.

Another silly look on her face:) This really would look nice with longer hair. I took the hair from one section and tied it around the next elastic. Obviously, hers came out really fast because of her short bangs, but it still looked really cute:)

She said she saw a spider:) Lol, that's my princess!

Zigzag headband and a messy ponytail

Okay, before you say anything, yes! I totally cheated and used this same picture on my other blog today. You just get to enjoy it twice:)

I did this style twice. This one turned out way better! I tried to cover the elastics the second time I did it, but Alex does not have quite enough hair for that:) If your little on does, you can use a little piece of hair from each section and tie a knot around the elastic. Yeah, maybe I'll show you what I mean in a few months:)

Okay, so, the most important part of this style, was the part:) I did a zigzag straight across the top. Then I put the section behind each little point into an elastic, starting from one side and going all the way across, and adding the hair from the previous section to the next pony. Go it? :)

We ended on this side and I added one more elastic to hold the hair behind her ear, though the wind uncovered it for me:)

I pulled up the hair just behind the "headband" and made a little messy bun. The second time I did this, I made a big poof with this pony by ratting it like crazy and adding some hairspray. It was super cute!

Oh, and check out that look... I promise, I didn't do it!

5-in-1, are you ready for this? :)

We survived! :) Alex is feeling much better after her little sick week. She is still on antibiotics and cough syrup with codeine(that's right, the good stuff:) It actually helps a ton, but she cannot stand the taste! Anyway, we are back online and happy to say nobody else is sick!

So, this look was inspired by The Story of a Princess and her African American hairstyles. By now, she may be done with it, but I'll post mine anyway:) Okay, so this is pretty simple, just a bunch of twists all over her head. You can do fewer if you like, but I just love this look on my little girl!

I put the elastics at the base right in the middle of each section, except for the one in the front. I pulled it all the way to one side to give the illusion of a side part. Please excuse the sleepy look, this was last Wednesday when she was super yucky feeling and on tylenol and ibuprofen...

I wanted to do something fun, so I alternated different geometric shapes for the parts.(you know, triangles, squares, rectangles, diamonds... yeah, you know) I was originally only planning to do the front sections and then pull the rest into three piggies, but Alex just fell in love with the twists!

This is the best shot I got of the top... I tried to use just her bangs for the front sections so she could still have those down in front. This was the day we went to the doctor and everyone complimented her hair! We left the twists in for two days... then took out just the end elastics and the look was so adorable! I just loved this! Okay, so the best thing about all this was how easy bathtime became:) Since we mostly stayed in, I didn't feel too bad about just washing her roots and a quick rinse for the rest. And, yes, the twists held up just fine.

These next two pics are out of order... this one is after I had taken out the other elastics the next day. I just grabbed the hair into super messy pigtails and then used some cute clips to hold the hair down to her head. This was so fun and so so cute!

Okay, this one is from the day we took out the first elastics and I love how the twists shaped the hair:) Because of my creative parts, I wasn't able to do even pigtails... Alex didn't really care though:) I think next time I do this, I will zigzag part the hair into piggies and then make the other sections from that. blah, blah, blah:) Okay, so I'm a little talky today! This last one is possibly my fav! I let everthing down and then just pulled up the front. This really looked adorable! It reminded me of Angelina's? hair in that movie... Gone in 60 seconds?(not sure if that's right, but I remember the hair, lol!) We went to the Y and the girls in the play zone just went on about it:)

Well, I'm glad to be back and I hope at least one of you enjoys my 5 day style:)

Bounce!

This one came out pretty cute, but not quite what I was going for. This was an easter pre-run. Well, it is still a cute everyday do. There are two styles in this post. I started with this one...Hope you don't need directions; it was pretty simple. (Sorry the pics are so dark!)

But, she got a cute little "boof" in the back with all that extra hair gathered on top!
For the style at the top, I just grabbed all that extra hair and put it in a super-high ponytail.
And now for some cheese:)

Twirls

I found a couple of older pictures and decided to post them. The pony-braids I have shown before, but this is a better picture. And I love the one with just the clip! I think this is a very pretty look.

I fixed Alex's hair for a special Sunday when family was in town. It looked so pretty. I parted her hair then twisted and pulled those pieces back. I secured them with a flower clip.

Bangs

I love this stage because Alex had natural bangs, and they looked very pretty.

Yeah! I was finally able to get all of her hair up! Pigtails remain a favorite, but now we can get a little more creative!

I saw a little girl while on vacation who had this style. And I just fell in love. I probably could have managed this one even earlier, but didn't know about it. I just parted the hair down the middle and then parted each half into sections. This is by far the easiest up-do:) This can be worn for everyday, but looks really lovely with dresses. Plus, it stays up all day. This picture is after my daughter's nap, so you can see it held up pretty well.

Here is another adorable style. I just used tiny claw clips to pull back 4 or 5 little bits of hair on top of her head. this is super easy to do, and re-do when needed.
