Relaxed Curls & Bun on a New Model w/ a New Flower

Please welcome my lovely niece, The Princess! A beautiful child with enough attitude for 2-13 yr old girls. ;) She agreed to model for me and I was so excited to fix her curly locks!
The Princess has naturally curly hair, very curly! I relaxed the curls with a replenishing spray and a touch of silk'n'curl. I brushed through her hair gently with an air-cushion brush. And then it was time for the style...
I put the top half of her hair into a ponytail, leaving her "bangs" and a bit at the sides out. I parted the bangs far to one side. I added the bangs to the side hair and made a simple braid, adding the braid  to the ponytail.
The same for the other side...
Next I made a very loose bun by simply picking up the hair, giving it two twists and then wrapping it around the ponytail. I left the ends sticking out slightly and secured it with a clear elastic. One great thing about curly hair, you never have to "do something" with the ends. ;)
I let the princess pick her accessory. (and I loved her choice!) This is a flower clip that I don't think I've featured on my blog before. It is cotton candy pink & white with a touch of feathers in the center.
Our mini modeling session was a blast; she was super serious about it! ;)
She was so pretty and walked around like the princess she is, all afternoon! ;)
Product Review Time:
This spray is on my mind today, mostly because I ran out and can't find it anywhere, AGHH! ;) I searched Dove's website to find a retailer... KMart on the other side of town, that's it! ugh, I don't really shop at kmart... at least not in the last 7 or so years. Sheesh! Walgreens is willing to have it sent from another location and that will take 2 weeks as it travels by truck, nice... I "ordered" 4 bottles. Lol, does that tell you how awesome this stuff is?! Okay, here's the deal.
DOVE Daily Moisture, Damage Therapy, Daily Hydrating/Replenishing Mist. (It has had other names, but the formulas are almost identical. The most recent does not have glycerin, a good thing I promise!) This works wonderfully for girls with dry or damaged hair. I use it on myself and on Alex. I have also used it on other little girls. In fact, I prefer to use it rather than water when dampening the hair. It does exactly as it says, replenishes the hair. I like to test limits and I've been using this stuff for a long time. I have drenched Alex's hair with it and when it dried, it was as though I'd just washed and conditioned her hair. No joke, it's the best stuff ever! ;) I have used it for every hair type, including one little girl with slightly oily hair. It even seemed to freshen her hair up and leave it less oily! I highly recommend this to help keep yours and your daughter's hair healthy!

Winner of the Giveaway!

Sorry to post a fake this morning!!! I forgot that I had scheduled this one to start, but hadn't adding the pictures or selected a winner yet. Oooops!

Well, first of all, here are the winner's choices...

First a rocker zebra pair. These are great for scene hair like this look,
This is a brand new pair.
Here is a brown and cream set of mini clips. These are wonderful for babies and toddlers, but my teenage niece loves them too. ;)
Another pair of mini clips. Pink camo and black are great girly fun!
Purple and off-white frilly flower. This is about 2 inches wide and is a wonderful accent piece for buns or to pull back the sides of hair.
Fall forest bows. These are about 4 inches wide. The colors are chocolate brown, forest green, cream & burgandy. The green is really shiny; the colors together give these a very rich look.
Black with light pink satin... perfectly for Ballerinas! About 4.5 inches
And last are my new Pinkie Pie's Party bows. Alex is in love with the sweet "My Little Pony" and these bows were inspired by that love. ;) The dark and light pink solid ribbon is very shiny... Perhaps the wrong season, but these would be great for Valentine's day!

Well, I used random.org, but couldn't get the picture to paste properly, sorry folks... you'll just have to trust that it's random. ;)

And the winner is:

#10 Christy said: Absolutely the cutest bumblebees I've ever seen! :) Congratulations on 100 posts! :D :D

Thanks so much Christy!

And because I feel just happy today and I'd like to spread the cheer, I'm adding a second winner:

#14 Juliet said: I love the bee costumes! I also love your site with all your cute ideas!

That's sweet Juliet, thank you!

A Messy Mess w/ a New Bow

We were playing outside and Alex wanted her hair fixed. She brought me two elastics and a bow...
Yeah, this one is really messy, but it actually turned out okay. ;) I started by making two french braids along the front and down - some call it a braided headband, but I left a small section out.
I pulled it all together in a low ponytail.
Then, guess what... a messy bun! I know, I took you off guard didn't I?! I never do those! --Lol! That was sarcasm, by the way. ;)
We added a bow, which I managed to not get that great a picture of... But Alex added the smile and that's all I really care about! ;)

Fabulous, Step by Step

Just in case anyone missed it, there is a GIVEAWAY in the post about Alex's recital. http://tinydiva.blogspot.com/2010/07/be-my-little-baby-bumblebee.html
A pair of hairbows available to one lucky winner, so comment away! ;)

And now for the 'do that I did for Alexandra's Faboulous photos... The up close, step by step pics I took of this hairstyle...
I started, as usual, by separating two sections in front and holding them back. I put the bottom into a low side ponytail. (Oh, and please ignore the sand... we have it under their playground/fort and it's always in her hair!)
Next, I parted the front into smaller sections and started some french braids. I put three on one side and just one on the other.
I pulled everything together into a messy bun type thing. I had to use one bobby pin for that last braid that wouldn't quite stay. Then some hairspray because her hair was frizzed out!
Add a bow and some sass and there you have it! ;)

Be My Little Baby Bumblebee...

Okay, so I have just been scheduling my blog posts to start one day at a time, but I realized with this one that I am almost two week late! ;) Oh well, still the same stuff right?
Anyway, it is recital time again and my kids were all pretty excited! Mr. Cool was in a Michael Jackson dance, "Beat It". They did an awesome job and got to participate in a competition earlier this spring where they received the Top award in the division!!! Yay! ;) Then there is Drama Boy who was in "I Want It All" from HSM, very fitting. Lol! He did great, but then missed his que to go back onstage for the end of his dance... he was still adorable! ;) Okay, so little miss Alex was a Bumblebee with her "twin" cousin. They were all so stinkin cute!
This was just before they went on stage for the competition. They all danced really well and received the top award for their division, as well as 7th place overall, WOW! ;) They had a blast and Alex kept asking if she could do another competition -though I think the trophy had something to do with this!
Oh, and yes I made the hairbow antenae for the girls... and then just before the recital I lost Alexandra's dance bag!!! How embarassed was I to be the "bow mom" for the studio and not have my own daughter's hairbows. GEEZ! But, being the "bow mom", I just happened to have this bow that is the right colors. Lol.
Okay, the first performance they did, I just made two little french braids to help the bows stay in place. For the recital, I did something a little different, which worked out well, since I had to pull them together... I'll do a tutorial on the style soon; it was really cute in person! ;)
So, this is the girls on stage at the recital... Alex would be the one with her stinger in the air! She did this last year too! Go figure! ;)
Oh, here's one where she's actually dancing! Of course she never misses a chance to shake her hips!

As an aside, I am super excited to mention that this is my 100th post! Yay! Lol, I probably should have hit that mark ages ago, but there you have it! ;) So in celebration I am going to randomly give away a pair of hairbows to one lucky person who comments on this post! You will get to choose from my rediculously huge inventory! ;) Thanks everyone for following!!!

Cupcake Cutie... New Bows!

I was out ribbon shopping and fell absolutely in love with all these coordinating designs! ;) We just love cupcakes at our house and this ribbon was to die for!!! The colors match several Gymbo lines and a few Gap lines too. ;) Anyway, I had a blast making these! ;)
Alex loved these too and wore them at the first opportunity! And I actually liked them with her pink halter dress. We were at a local settler's days and got tons of compliments! ;)
And then she wore them later to go grocery shopping! Lol, loved the whole outfit! ;)

Red Villa Headband

Don't know if anyone will love this headband as much as me, but I was just pleased as punch! ;)
I made this to match a new outfit of Alexandra's from the Red Villa Baby Gap line. There's a funky and simple style here too...
First, for the headband... I used organza ribbon in crimson and just off-white to make a huge bow. It is attached to a mega thin headband and topped off with a crocheted butterfly. So pretty! ;)
For the hair... This took less than 5 minutes, really! I just grabbed a section of hair, no parting, and twisted it. Fold the twist over itself and wrap an elastic around it. I did this all the way around her head, leaving pieces sticking out all over the place! A little crazy and super messy, but we got more compliments than almost any other hair style I've done. ;)
She wore this style to dance that night and tumbling... it stayed up and out of her face and everyone thought it was cute. Bonus! ;)
Can you tell who picked the shoes?! ;) ~ Alex was being really sweet that day, so I just clicked away. And then she had to throw some diva in there... yeah, this last one is all Alex! ;)

Little Ponytail, Big Bow

Thank you everyone for your kind comments and emails after my last post. Alexandra has been doing much better and we have lots of hair styles, bows, and clothing sets to share! ;)

This is one of my favorite styles! Lol, really it's just a mini ponytail right on top of her head. Then I add a big bow to hide the fact that I did nothing! ;) But really, Alex frequently asks me to fix her hair like this because it is so quick and it really does look cute...
She looked a little sad in that picture ... Daddy told her to take a break. ;)
We did a lot this day... fishing with Papa, a birthday party... Her hair lasted the whole time, even through an outfit change. ;)
Okay, this last picture doesn't really show off her 'do or bow, but she's just so stinkin' cute. ;)

Old 'do, new bows. :)

This is by far my favorite style for toddlers when mom's in a hurry. ;) I have done this one with two or three, or even four little piggies. I just parted out the top of her hair and put it in little piggies. On the last time around with the elastic, I pull the hair halfway through. Then I just kind of scatter the ends a little. Add some clippies and voila!

Here is a shot from the back, doesn't really tell you anything more... Anyway, when I made these clips I thought I was being so super creative. Then I found a lady on etsy who uses the little puffballs quite often... still cute, I think. :)
Both Gymboree and Gap have popular Apple lines, and I originally was just wanting something simple for my Alex to wear. I really liked how these turned out, so I am adding them to my shop too. ;)
Thanks for stopping by... I have some exciting styles in the works... oh, and I kidnapped my hubby's camera, so at least the pics will be in more than 2mp. ;)
