ROCKAHOLIC ... New Detangler, New 'Do

We created a fun new 'do today inspired by our new "BORN TO ROCK" detangler by TIGI. It was really fun and too cute! Alex was full of attitude, so I have a lot of pics. And then there's the product review, so this post is just a bit longer than usual. ;)
This style works best with clean, damp hair. I used water and a little of Alex's new detangler/defrizzer to re-wet her hair. I made a very deep part on the top, on the opposite side as her natural part -there's a good reason for this. ;) Then continue the part down the middle all the way down.
Next, separate the top section of the smaller side, leaving out a piece in the front. Make a pull-through knot.
Braid the front piece, then pull it and the remaining hair from the top section together in a low pigtail. --For toddlers or shorter bangs do the front piece first. Put it into a pony or pull-through, then add it to the top section.--

For the other side, leave the bangs and front piece out but do the same for the top and bottom sections.
Okay, this top part may look funny and this is one of those moments I Really wish I had video capabilities. ;) You want to take the bangs and a small part of that side-front piece, brush it all straight forward to the hairline and then straight up. I suggest holding it in place here and adding hairspray for umph. Add an elastic several inches up.
This is the really important part to getting that 'bouf' rather than a flat twist. You want to twist the elastic straight down. For Alex's short hair, it was just two little turns. Then comb that side piece straight up, lay it in line with the 'bouf', and secure it with an elastic to the first piece.
I was totally out of bobby pins. (Yes, for shame!) So, I just used a cute clippie to hold this part in place. I left the end hanging. For longer hair, you could add a braid to this end piece and add it to the pigtail.

I straightened the ends, and voila! Now for the tons of pics from today. ;)
Her "Barbie Girl" bows were a proposal set I had made for a dance studio. They went with something else, but Alex was perfectly happy to keep them! ;)
Here's the one smile I got for the whole day. Go figure she was standing by our old Jeep. ;)

I thought we were finished with pictures after we got inside, but Alex ran into my office with these arm warmers. So adorable! ;) And then we got to talking about her new Tink shirt she was wearing. She had a different pose for each word... this one was "Fun"
and here's "Spunky"
I believe this last one is "Tough" or maybe "Feisty" ;)
Now for the new product! I have to say how impressed I am with the new spray! So far, I love it! And at $15.00/bottle, that's a good thing! ;) But really, these last pics were a few hours after I had fixed her hair. It was still all in place and calmer than it usually is after just 20 minutes! I have used other defrizzers and found them greasy, but this one seems to just add some extra moisture and vitamins or something.;) It detangled faster and easier than others we've used without being grimy. And the very best part of the whole thing is the smell! Alex and I both love it, something pretty rare! ;) Overall, I give TIGI's "BORN TO ROCK" Leave-In Detangler & Defrizzer 5 out of 5 Stars!

Lovely Updo ~ A Poof & 2 French Braids

Finally a new style! ;)
This was inspired by a style I saw on a tv show...
It was pretty easy to do, but I did adapt it a little for short hair.
I started with a simple little poof on top. I used just a touch of mousse and did a small amount of teasing/back-combing in the middle of the top section. Then brush the top smooth and add an elastic about an inch away from the head. Then pull on just the bottom part of the hair in the elastic to tighten it. This puffs up the hair a little better.
And really, you could stop there, it is cute enough. ;) Anyway, I did french braids in the remaining hair, one on each side. And I sort of braided toward the middle by taking more hair from the outside than the inside. Although I used all the hair, I put the elastic in above her hairline.
After both braids are finished, put use another elastic to hold the ends together. For short hair, this seems to be the best way to go. I twisted the pieces in and up before putting them together, but you could also do a pull-through knot. --- For longer hair, you have several options. You could just pull all the hair into a low ponytail, or do a bun. You could curl the ends or do a messy bun. It would also be cute to do the braids straight down, then split the top section in half and add it to the braids. Just a few ideas. ;) ---
Okay, so this step is difficult to explain, and obviously I'm not really that good at it anyway. ;) I took the hair in that top section and pulled it to the side turning the end up. I added the end to the ends from the braids and used an elastic to hold them together. Then just move the section back in front and mess with it 'til it looks right. Lol, yeah great instructions, huh? ;)
And to hide all those hairs I had sticking out... a flower clip! ;)
If you wanted to hide the top elastic, you could do a wrap around with the hair or use a smaller clip, I was pleased with the finished 'do and Alex loved it too. ;)

I actually think this style is kind of fancy and would look really pretty for a dance. ;)

Rockstar Invites and Scene Hair ;)

So here is the finished invite, minus personal details;) I was pretty happy with! Now, off to Walgreens to use their photo printer. At 8 cents a copy, these will be really inexpensive invitations! Below are some of the pictures I didn't use for the invite...
This is one of the shots that I posed... she was such a ham yesterday, I could have snapped shots all day;)
Lol! This one was all Alex; I guess she hangs out with her 12yr old cousin too much;)
This shot really shows off the bump we did. I actually took the guitar picks first and then just too the zebra clip from the front and pulled the top of her hair back in the middle. Super fast change and it looked WAY cute!
This was in the middle of our little shoot... she was a little bored I think;)

She was hot(at 102 outside, who wouldn't be?), so she asked to take her jacket off... these are literally just in the moment shots. Hahaha, she's a natural I guess.

And there's that smirk;)
Jonas Brother's hat(she borrowed this from earlier mentioned cousin;) which was at the recent concert in KC and even got foamed!
And the sweet princess smile... she hides all that attitude well, don't ya think?!

Easy Peasy Messy Bouf

Before I start this hairstyle I wanted to say a big huge Thank You to my followers and fellow bloggers for welcoming me back! I appreciate your comments
I included a bunch of pics today... Alex was really hammin' it up today;)
If you remember the last post, I did french braids along the top of her hair. This left super cute crimpy hair all over her head...
In fact this picture shows just what it looked like when I took the braids out... Lol, my own little Alex Einstein!
Anyway, I just made a little bump by teasing the front part from underneath. It didn't take much because the crimp had already added a lot of body.

I just used a little clip to hold the hair in back and another on the side to hold back her bangs. It turned out super cute! Becuase her hair is so short, I didn't have to do anything to the bottom. But for longer hair, you could put braids in the rest of the hair the night before and make sure they're wet. In the morning, all the hair will be nicely crimped.

This last one is my favorite of the bunch!

My goodness... too much sass for me;)

Sneak Peek... because I am WAY too busy!

Okay, so I don't have time to post right now, but it has been several days:) So, here is a little sneak peek of do's and things I will post over the next couple days...
First, I gave Alex a hair cute:( I was so sad to see all those lovely curls go... This picture is several months old, but is the best at showing just how much hair she had before. We took off 4 inches! You'll hear more about this, trust me! :)
You will also get to see this super-easy, but absolutely beautiful updo! (This is one that will work for little girl, big girl... you might even find yourself doing this to your hair. I sure did!)
You'll see this one too, the first do I did after her cut. Just a fun bouf, but one that will stay, and stay! I have 3 more do's to share, but I haven't even downloaded the pictures yet. I think you'll like what's coming:)
You still have til Wednesday to enter my giveaway. If you haven't yet... go check it out!

Thank you to everyone who has entered so far! I have really enjoyed all the nice comments and emails:)

What a mess!

Okay, time for dance class again:) I was in a relaxed sort of mood. Something simple and fun, but out of her face.
There are three ponies in the front keeping her bangs back. The middle one, I put in and then used my rat tail comb to pull the hair up and give it a little bouf. The sides I did pull-throughs in.
Then, I just gathered everything up in a pony. I did the first step for my ballerina bun and just pulled out a few pieces. Btw, this kind of style works great with kinks left in the hair from braids or twists, etc. from the day before:)
These pics are just too cute! A huge thanks to my sis, Amber for catching these!

Oh my! What a smile:) She makes me giggle!

Oh, before I go, I hope you'll take a minute to check out this blog... http://www.hairreactions.blogspot.com/ Meeghan just introduced herself and I really enjoyed her posts! Hope you do too:)
