Ribbon Headband

I just love this hairstyle! I think it's an adorable yet fancy toddler hairdo! What do you think!?

 

I started by separating the hair I knew I didn't want involved and pinning it back temporarily with a claw clip.

 

Then I parted the hair in front (the "headband" section and made little ponytails. Keeping the elastics at the back edge of the section of hair. I made 6 ponytails. 3 on each side of her head.

then I removed the temporary claw clips and fluffed Q's curls :)

and the other side!

 

Now, you could be done at this point! 

 

I think it's cute. Especially if it had been done with colored elastics, or add claw clips to each ponytail, etc.

But I chose to add RIBBON!

I use a craft "sewing" needle to thread the ribbon thru the hair :)

The threading process... I just "sewed" the ribbon thru each ponytail, nice and close to the elastic.

 

Here's what it looks like when you're done threading...

 

Then, instead of just holding the ends out of the way, like I'm doing in this picture - TIE them! :)

 

Make a bow if you want and cut the ribbon ends to the length you prefer...and you're done!

 

How can a person resist a face like that?? :)  And here you have a cute yet elegant toddler hairstyle!

Baby Elastic Headband

This hairstyle has never really worked for Q. She just won't leave it on her head! :) But man they are cute!

 

See that sneaky hand already tho? Reaching back to fuss at (read: pull off) the headband!

I think if I had gotten her used to the idea of wearing a headband before she had the coordination to reach up there and yank it off by herself, that maybe she'd be more inclined to leave headbands on her head.... but who knows?!  

(I have read, however, that you shouldn't leave small babies wearing headbands like this too long - because they can't get them off by themselves and aren't great at communicating - so if it starts to hurt or be too tight, they can't tell us. The headbands are made to be a bit snug but you don't want to cause undue pressure to a baby's delicate head!)

Anyway, I wanted to include this as a post because I think they are cute, yet so often overlooked! 

Tiny Twirls Two Strand Twist Out Update

Remember our Tiny Twirls by Kinky Curly review? Well, I wanted to do a quick update on how her two strand twist out is holding up from using Tiny Twirls Daily Moisturizing Styler. Her hair still feels amazingly soft and her twist out is holding up well. Her satin bonnet is missing in action so she has not been sleeping with it on. I just put a her hair in a high ponytail using a Goody Ouchless ponytail holder, I didn't even have to wrap it. I just put it over the ponytail and it stayed put. This way she is not sleeping on her twists, which will cause them to become flat and frizzy.

Here is her hair on Day 2.

 I used Tiny Twirls Daily Moisturizing Styler to smooth down her pigtails.

And here is her hair on Day 4.

 Once again, I used Tiny Twirls Daily Moisturizing Styler to smooth down the ponytail.

Today was day 5, she could have gotten a couple more days out of the twist out but I decided to detangle her hair and put it in one big braid. It was extremely easy to detangle her hair, I'm sure the Tiny Twirls Styler had something to do with it. I used a little water and virgin coconut oil and in about 10 minutes her hair was completely detangled. :)

Littleman's Lounge: Jay'son

Tell us a little about yourself and your son:

My Name is Tasha, 22 and I am also Bi-Racial (1/2 Black 1/2 Chamorro [Pacific Islander from Guam]) and Jay'son is 2 and he is 3/4 Black 1/4 Chamorro. I have been interested and researching Bi-Racial Hair Care for about 2yrs after I have been trying to restore MY own curls back to a healthy state, my mom tried to maintain my hair, but she was often times clueless and when I started taking over the care of my hair, I caused a lot of damage to it, so I have vowed to learn how to care for my children's B-Racial hair.

What is your son's hair care routine?

I wash Jay'son's hair about every other day when its shorter and when we grow it out, and his curls come in, I wash about once to twice a week. I make sure I condition/Cowash it in between washings. To refresh his curls, I have a conditioner/water mix in a spray bottle that I spray on and comb through, then I add coconut oil. At nights, his dad will put a DuRag on his hair and he sleeps on satin pillow cases to retain the moisture in his hair (cotton pillow cases will deplete the natural oils in the hair).

What kind of products do you use on his hair?

Shampoo: Garnier Fructis Moisturizing for Dry or Damaged Hair Fortifying Shampoos or Dove's Moisture Therapy Shampoo

Conditioner: Herbal Essences' Hello Hydration or Cabellina del caballos (Which I LOVE LOVE LOVE... )

Styling Products: Coconut Oil and/or ORS' Olive Oil Moisturizing Lotion

How does your son feel about his hair?

Jay'son LOVES his hair, whether its short with a fade, Mid with Waves or long with Curls, He also asks me or his dad to brush/comb his hair, he loves to "help" wash and condition his hair. Lol.

If you had to share one hair care tip, what would it be?

Since we live in Vegas, during the summer months, we keep Jay'son's hair fairly low and one tip to those who cut their Lil' Man's curls, make sure NOT to cut his natural hair line, no matter how cute it is to cut or taper his hairline, if he is 5 or younger, it will mess up his hairline and that's not cute! Also, if you keep his hair low, make sure not to cut his hair too low, that will mess up his curls and they may not grow back how they were growing naturally. If your Lil Man is rockin' his curls, moisture is a PLUS, I can not stress what a big difference a proper moisturizer can do for his curls.

Daddy 'Do!

He really likes the beads, I guess :) I love it!

For this one it looks like he twisted each strand individually, and added a bead to it. Then twisted them together and added a bead to the end of the twist.  I don't have any more picture, unfortunately, but he did one of these twists on each side of her face - he likes keeping her "bangs" out of her eyes!
